LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday overcame a significant obstacle when the Lahore High Court (LHC) accepted his plea against an election tribunal’s decision to bar the PTI leader from contesting the upcoming elections from his constituency, NA-67 Jhelum,
The outspoken PTI leader had earlier today moved the LHC in a plea that challenge the tribunal’s disqualification of Chaudhry.
The tribunal had given its verdict in an appeal Justice and Democratic Party’s Fakhar Abbas Kazmi had launched against Chaudhry, which claimed that the latter had not paid agricultural tax, and his CNIC bore the name of ‘Fawad Ahmad.’
Speaking to the media after the LHC’s decision, Chaudhry said, “Those who were celebrating my disqualification are now hiding their faces.”
The PTI leader also celebrated the LHC decision on Twitter, dubbing the decision a victory for PTI and for the residents of Jhelum.
Chaudhry also took to Twitter to thank the Pakistan Bar Council, the Lahore High Court Bar Association and all the lawyers who had stood with him in “rejecting illegal order of disqualification”.
Fawad Chaudhry had earlier dubbed the election tribunal’s decision to disqualify him as a gambit to ‘influence’ his campaign.
General elections will be held in the country on the 25th of July.
